“Discover an underwater kingdom flourishing with Sea Anemone Fields and the densest population of Clownfish in the Samae San area, managed under strict conservation efforts that limit visitor numbers for sustainability.”

Ko Raet Island (Kho Raet Island) is one of the islands under the Plant Genetic Conservation Project under the Royal Initiative of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. Geographically, it is a small island shaped like a rhinoceros (Raet) crouching in the sea. The surrounding waters are exceptionally clear and shallow, thanks to rigorous waste management and the restriction of environmentally damaging tourism activities. The landscape consists of rocky outcrops interspersed with short stretches of fine white sand, making it a vital marine nursery and a habitat for rare marine life that remains surprisingly abundant.

The most significant feature of Ko Raet is its underwater biodiversity, particularly the massive colonies of massive corals (Porites) and branching corals. A true unseen highlight is the Clownfish Village expansive fields of sea anemones swaying with the current, providing a home to various species of Clownfish that visitors can observe at a depth of only 1-2 meters. Furthermore, the island features underwater sculptures designed as fish habitats and diving attractions, perfectly blending art with ecological restoration.

In terms of the visitor experience, Ko Raet offers an exclusive and tranquil feel, distinct from the busier Ko Samae San or Ko Kham. Since there are no large permanent structures or bustling shops, the atmosphere focuses on a "Slow Life" retreat. Visitors can breathe in pure air and listen to the clear sound of the waves. Kayaking around the island allows one to witness the shifting shades of the sea, from emerald green to deep indigo, and visitors can trek to a vantage point for a panoramic view of the entire Samae San peninsula.

For specialized travelers such as academics, documentary photographers, or conservation volunteers, Ko Raet serves as a living nature classroom. It is often a site for studying "coral bleaching" and coral propagation. For families and couples, the island provides inspiration through the beauty of unspoiled nature, serving as a landmark for high-quality, eco-conscious travel.

Ultimately, Ko Raet is more than just a place for relaxation; it represents the success of joint natural resource management between the local community and the Royal Thai Navy. A visit here creates lasting memories while reinforcing the importance of preserving Thailand’s precious marine treasures for future generations.
