“A scenic 6.1-kilometer coastal drive along Sagami Bay, offering uninterrupted Pacific Ocean views and one of Japan’s most celebrated sunrise routes, connecting Kanagawa directly to Atami and the Izu Peninsula.”

Atami Beachline (熱海ビーチライン) is a privately operated toll road that functions as a scenic gateway to the Izu Peninsula. The road extends approximately 6.1 kilometers, running parallel to the coastline of Sagami Bay, and directly connects the Kanagawa prefectural border to central Atami in Shizuoka Prefecture.

Unlike the winding mountain roads common in the surrounding area, Atami Beachline is flat and relatively straight, providing a smooth, safe, and relaxing driving experience. The road offers an unobstructed nearly 180-degree panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean, making it especially popular among travelers exploring Atami by car.

The Beachline is widely regarded as one of Japan’s best places to view “Hatsuhinode”, the first sunrise of the year, as the road is perfectly aligned with the Pacific horizon. During certain seasons, drivers can also enjoy elevated views of the Atami Marine Fireworks Festival, adding to its reputation as a scenic highlight.

It is important to note that Atami Beachline is a toll road, not a beach. The actual sandy shoreline is Atami Sun Beach, which is located near the southern exit of the road. While separate, the two are closely connected and often visited together.
