“Retrace the legend of the samurai who served the Siamese kingdom and experience the vintage Japanese atmosphere through modern multimedia exhibitions and picturesque riverside rock gardens.”
Den japanska byn (Japanese Village) is located on a historically significant site that once served as the largest Japanese settlement in Ayutthaya during its golden age. The community flourished under the leadership of Yamada Nagamasa, who was granted the noble title Okya Senaphimuk by the Siamese court. He played a crucial role in military affairs, trade, and diplomacy, strengthening ties between Ayutthaya and Japan.
This site is not merely a cultural attraction, but a powerful symbol of the long-standing diplomatic and commercial relationship between Thailand and Japan, which dates back more than 600 years. It reflects the exchange of people, knowledge, technology, and culture between the two civilizations. Today, the Japanese Village is carefully preserved and developed as a living museum by the Thai–Japanese Association, aiming to present historical knowledge in an engaging and modern way for future generations.
Inside the museum, visitors can explore modern multimedia exhibitions featuring VR technology, short films, and immersive reconstructions that illustrate the daily life of Japanese residents in Ayutthaya, including trade, official service, and permanent settlement. The exhibitions also highlight the story of Thao Thong Kip Ma, a woman of mixed heritage who played a significant role in the Ayutthaya royal court and is regarded as the originator of many traditional Thai desserts. The exhibition building is designed in a clean and elegant style, blending Japanese aesthetics with accessible and engaging historical content suitable for visitors of all ages.
The outdoor atmosphere is enhanced by a beautifully arranged Zen-style Japanese garden, featuring rock gardens, stone lanterns, a small artificial waterfall, and carefully selected plants that create a sense of calm and balance. A pathway through the garden leads to the banks of the Chao Phraya River, the main transportation route in the past. A red bridge and torii gate serve as iconic landmarks, where visitors can enjoy the river breeze and watch boats slowly pass by, creating a peaceful and reflective ambiance that connects past and present.
Den japanska byn is a paradise for Japanese culture enthusiasts, photographers, and content creators, offering rental services for yukata and kimono for photo sessions throughout the site. There is also a Japanese-style café serving delicate drinks and desserts, making it an ideal destination for families seeking educational outings or groups of friends looking to relax in a unique setting distinct from Ayutthaya’s traditional temples and ruins.
Everyone is invited to experience the charm of the Land of the Rising Sun on Siamese soil at Den japanska byn, where centuries-old friendship is brought to life and unforgettable photo spots await—ensuring that your visit to Ayutthaya becomes truly special and memorable.
